旅行的意义,不只在于去过的地标、看过的风景、拍过的照片和遇到的人。作家的圣地巡礼,也不仅仅是对一幅作品或一段历史本身的追忆,而是在对景观的凝视中,将思绪从眼前扩展开来,驰骋千里之外,让虚幻成风的过往与现实相互交融,之后重新审视眼前的风景,或览旧物,生新情;或观新景,有所感。无论是观看画展、歌舞伎表演,还是欣赏电影和文学,臧否历史人物,看似信手拈来却处处蕴含独到见解。

蒋方舟说“二O一六年,我独自一人在东京生活了一年,东京也拯救了我。”受日本国际交流基金会之邀,她在东京独居了一年。她越来越喜欢写漫长的日记,觉得孤独地生活一辈子也不是坏事。

日记共有四十六则,收录了她最新的短篇小说、演讲和时评,驳杂不失纯粹。从社会、艺术到当今中日两国世间百态,都有其独特又不失严肃的描摹与思考。

同时,这也是一本病历,记录了一个人要活成本来面目所需付出的努力。“就像在东京度过的一年并没有把我变成一个新人,我们只是更像自己本来该成为的样子。”

本书邀请日本纪录片导演伊藤王树一路旅拍,镜头下是东京的日常以及“在别处”。


1786年9月3日凌晨三时,37岁的歌德提起行囊,独自一人钻进一辆邮车,逃往了意大利。

那时候的歌德在魏玛已经生活了十几年,身居要职。他出逃并非是因为走投无路,而是他发现自己的人生不知不觉被套上了一个齿轮:白天忙于政务,业余创作一些爱情诗,生活把创作热情压榨得干瘪枯竭。

他有朴素的直觉:这样下去不行,因此抛弃了一切,逃到了他心目中的乌托邦——意大利。他在那里生活了一年零九个月,足迹遍及整个意大利,从城市到农村,喜悦地目睹并且描述着岩石的硬度和空气的弹性。

歌德在意大利完成了《在陶里斯的伊菲格尼亚》,写了《塔索》《浮士德》的部分。意大利拯救了他,把他从成为一个附庸风雅的公务员的命运齿轮上解救了下来。

2016年,我独自一人在东京生活了一年,东京也拯救了我。

有生以来第一次,我度过了一段完全真空的生活,没有目标与意义,每天一睁眼就是一大片需要填充的空白。任何一件事都需要把时间拉得很长远,把浓度稀释,才能填充过完一天,所以我必须认真凝视美术馆里每一幅画,认真咀嚼每一口食物,认真地把每一个念想变得绵长。

认真也是孤独的结果。我几乎不会日语,大多数时候面对别人都只能微笑点头,无法建立任何情感联系,更无法在人际交往里投入什么热情。说实话,即便会日语也无助于我缓解孤独。东京是一个人情冷漠的城市,用获得芥川奖的作家、搞笑艺人又吉直树在《火花》里形容的:

“东京这个地方,聚集着从各个地方而来的人们。从前在乡下时,从漫画和电视剧里看见的东京,虽然灯火繁华,但人总是很冷漠。上京后我才明白了,那并不是冷漠,而是因为身为外来者的大家都心情紧张。外来者进入东京这个城市,一个个都表现出不要被吃掉的紧张状态,终于成了一个集合体。”

我在东京的生活仿佛在一种看不见的屏障中,无论是走在拥挤的表参道或涩谷,还是被裹挟在人群中去看花火大会,我始终感到人群是幻觉,我在与自己单独交谈。

被迫的认真与被迫的隔离,把我从之前一直在被动加速的跑步机上的生活中解救了下来,重新获得了观察和思考的能力。

这几年我很反感的一句话是:生活不只有眼前的苟且,还有诗和远方。

“眼前苟且”与“诗和远方”是一对虚假的对立。我在东京一年的生活表面看是“诗和远方”,生活在迷人的异域,鸡毛蒜皮消失了,可东京的生活同样存在着无奈的人性、琐碎的沟通、窘迫的算计与虚伪的寒暄。另外,网络的发达让“远方”的概念消失了,我身在异国,却时刻关注着国内的人与事,为我触手而不可及的苦难感到悲伤。正是这些并不美好的细节,才构成了生活的全部。

这或许就是为什么我爱读作家的日记和信件——不仅仅是出于某种窥私癖,更是因为那仿佛是一种反向的摄影。作品是艺术家生命的结晶和照片,我通过日记和信件,把那凝固一瞬的风景在时空上进行扩展,看到了他们完整的艺术生活。

所以我也保留了自己日记里那些絮叨的呓语和局促的社交,全部摊开来,有种“全暴露了”的快感。

1786年11月4日,歌德在罗马给自己的母亲写了一封信,信中说:“我将变成一个新人回来。”

重获新生的歌德其实并没有变成一个新人,就像在东京度过的一年并没有把我变成一个新人,我们只是更像自己本来该成为的样子。
